Wednesday, February

Good thing yesterday was the downtown errands as today is rainy and cool. So sorting out what we take, what we throw away and what we store against a probable return, although the rule remains the same - store nothing you couldn’t walk away from. The future is always speculative.

Meanwhile in the outside world Cyprus is lamenting its drop to 51st place in the  Transparency International’s Perceptions Corruption Index. Actually, the rankings are less critical than they may sound as there’s a fair bit of bunching, so that Canada, with a score of 74, is in a four way tie for 14th place, while France with a score of 72, only two points lower, is in 21st place. More disturbing than Cyprus’s rank or the score of 52 (EU average is 66 - Denmark highest at 90) is the fact that the score has dropped for the last four consecutive years. Doesn’t really seem any way of rephrasing this as an achievement.
