Stolen fruit tastes sweeter? The oranges from the tree on our patio are inedible. Tiny and rock hard. Clearly the victims of a summer of extreme heat and drought. But the tree next door has some fruit that is bigger and juicier. Possibly thanks to watering or luck in acquiring more shade. Can see no moral objection to sampling as a) several oranges are on branches hanging down on our side of the wall; b) these oranges are totally inaccessible except from our patio which can only be reached by coming through our flat; and c) no one seems to be currently in residence next door, though they could simply be away for a couple of weeks. C does sound a bit dubious. It’s hard to argue that there’s no moral objection to taking someone’s property if they won’t see you do it. A and B much better. A may even have legal force in some jurisdictions (though not necessarily this one). And B means the oranges are totally inaccessible - and in fact can’t even be seen by the owners of the tree. They don’t know the oranges exist and couldn’t pick them if they did.

Gratifyingly sweet and juicy, though quite a few seeds for our sins.
