Should be in Istanbul today. Well, Istanbul followed by North Cyprus. Instead of which we have a second R&R day in Artemis village near Athens Airport. And extremely lucky in our choice of accommodation. Chilly and windy in Athens and we haven’t even bothered to go out. Although there is a taverna menu in the flat which looks quite attractive. Our indolence made much less painful by our landlady, who has supplied us with hot homemade lentil soup, cabbage rolls, olives and homemade bread and wine as well as the breakfasts we signed up for. An interesting (retired 20 years ago after working 40 years for the Fulbright Foundation) as well as generous woman, and we may well not have stayed here for the last time. Any review bound to drift toward hyperbole - which is, of course, how we discovered the spot in the first place.
Casualty numbers from the Turkish earthquake continue to mount alarmingly, and the weather remains cold and wet, snow depending on just how cold. Keep checking the email against further cancellations. Fingers crossed. And of course the recognition that our travel difficulties are nothing in the light of the problems of earthquake victims.
